Magic Class - 31040104

Is magic in your heart? Has your child always wondered about the mystery of the magician? This class will help your little wizard learn a few tricks of the trade. Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading and more. While the tricks may appear difficult, you'll discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and always learn tricks that are age-appropriate. Additionally, you can sign up for this class again and again since brand new tricks are always taught each session!

Safe Sitter - 31040105

The Safe Sitter program is a medically accurate childcare curriculum designed to prepare 11- 13 year old children to be safe and nurturing babysitters. Our instructors will teach important life skills- business, medical, and safe habits- in this high quality course. Lake Forest Parks and Recreation sponsors this competency based, highly structured interactive program. Students learn about a wide variety of topics through discussion, practice and role-play. Please bring a peanut free lunch and drink to the full day session, and a peanut free snack and drink to the half day session.

Buddy Baseball - 31040111

Grab your mitt and join your friends as we pair with our buddies to play America’s favorite pastime. Buddy Baseball is a program for players with developmental and/or physical disabilities. Each week we will take the field as we challenge our friends to an exciting game of t-ball. Participants will spend time warming up and play a three inning game each week. Teams will be formed weekly to allow participants to make new friends and enjoy the experience. This is a non-competitive athletic opportunity.

These are exciting, fun, team-based camps where students become producers of technology through cutting-edge technology and hands-on projects that build 21st Century skills and connect science, engineering, math and the arts! Techstars programs are run by Computer Explorers.

Buddies - 31050112

We are looking for volunteer’s age 12 – 17 who are ready to share in the fun and excitement of Buddy baseball. As a buddy, you will be paired with an athlete with special needs as he or she learns to play t-ball in a non-competitive environment. Help us create an experience where everyone can have fun enjoying America’s pastime. While there is no fee for buddies, you must register for the experience. Note: Please bring a mitt and dress in athletic clothing each week.

Counselor In Training - 31059901

This is a special program for Lake Forest students only, who are currently enrolled in and finishing grades 7th through 10th this year or are 13 to 15 years old. The CITs are volunteer workers for the Recreation Department's summer programs. The purpose of this program is to help the older youth of Lake Forest develop leadership skills through a summer work experience. The many skills learned by the CIT will aid the individual in possibly obtaining future paying job opportunities. Most summer programs will meet June 18 - August 10. CITs are required to attend an intensive training session during the week of June 11, Placement in the camps will vary. A packet of information including a CIT application will be available for pick up February 26th. Applications must be submitted to the Recreation Dept. by April 9th, 2018 for consideration. All potentail CITs must attend the staff training week where they will learn valuable job training skills to prepare them for potential future employment. This week of training will include various job skills, team building, time at the individual camps and will end with a field trip just for the CITs.
NOTE: No camps July 4 or August 1st. Additional volunteer opportunities may exist for interested individuals.
