Young Potters - 10440101

This class is for students who are interested in learning about the potter's wheel and developing the skills required in wheel throwing. Functional pottery projects will be emphasized. Students are encouraged to complete at least two sessions of Dynamic Ceramics before participating in this class. Exceptions for older students can be made.

Dynamic Ceramics - 10440102

This introduction to ceramics will emphasize creative expression through the use of clay. Participants will explore the basic approaches to clay including coil, pinch, and slab drape methods. Great seasonal projects will be made. Students are recommended to have two sessions of Ceramics before moving on to Young Potters.

Ceramic Turkey Centerpiece Workshop - 10440401

Decorate your holiday table with an adorable ceramic turkey. We will be handbuilding a fun turkey using clay. Your own cut out clay hand prints will be used for the turkey feathers. This little fellow will become a favorite holiday keepsake for years to come. Underglazes will be used to paint our creations and a kiln firing will take place. Pick up of finished projects will be 10 days later.

Keepsake Ceramic Christmas Ornament Workshop - 10440402

This workshop will have the children hand build ceramic candy canes plus, we also will do slab work by rolling out and pressing out a variety of holiday shape ornaments such as gingerbread boy/girls, Christmas trees, stars plus lots of fun shapes like animals, trucks, and hearts. The kids will then paint the ornaments with colorful glazes. These ceramic ornaments make great gifts and are special keepsakes for many years to come. Pick up of finished projects will be 10 days later.

Happy Hanukkah Menorahs and Dreidels Workshop - 10440408

Celebrate the holiday of lights by making your own ceramic Menorah and Dreidels. Young artists will create an easy to assemble Menorah and spinning Dreidels. Beginner Wheel Throwing - 10460101

Do you like to get your hands dirty now and then? Come join us for a weekly session of creativity and exploration as we learn to create basic pottery shapes such as the bowl, cup and vase using both the pottery wheel and handbuilding techniques. Experiment with color and texture using glazes, slips, stains and more. Create at your own pace, regardless of skill level or experience. Students choose to have their artwork fired in our high-fire gas kiln, our Soda kiln or various low-fire methods including Raku and pit-fire (weather and student interest permitting). Mosaics - 10460105

Fulfill your mosaic dreams and discover new dimensions for the art form. Learn how to create and undulated substrate for your mosaic. Learn how to create a sculpture form especially for mosaic and create great pieces of art for your home and garden. All the basic and advance techniques are covered including choosing correct substrates, tile design layout, cutting, adhesion and grouting. As well as the opportunity to work in glass and other materials, at Stirling Hall you have access to a full ceramic facility so you will learn to make low relief ceramic tiles to customize your work. 25 lbs. of clay, high-fire glazes, and open studio time are included in the class fee. Most tools provided. Additional tools are available for purchase at Stirling Hall. Beginner and experienced mosaic artists are welcome.

Figure Sculpture - 10460106

Working from a nude model, students will take a methodical and anatomical approach to sculpting a realistic figure. Students may choose a head, torso,or full figure. Focus will be given to anatomy, skeletal structure, body portions, pose gesture. Building techniques, problem solving, observational skills, internal armature, will be emphasized. Special attention will be given to traditional and nontraditional finishing techniques for sculpture. Students are encouraged to creatively finish their sculpture. Students will begin learning the fundamentals of creating three dimensional substrates and carving their substrates to be used for their final mosaic. Self Portrait in Clay - 10460420

Who knows how to sculpt you better than you? In this class students will be their own model. Working with a mirror and photographs, students will create a one half life size portrait of themselves. Special attention will be given to anatomy, skeletal structure and facial expression. Upon completion of your self portrait you will learn how to prepare your work for kiln firing.
