Introduction to Wheel Throwing - 20460101

Do you like to get your hands dirty now and then? Come join us for a weekly session of creativity and exploration as we learn to create basic pottery shapes such as the bowl, cup and vase using both the pottery wheel and handbuilding techniques. Experiment with color and texture using glazes, slips, stains and more. Create at your own pace, regardless of skill level or experience. Students choose to have their artwork fired in our high-fire gas kiln, our Soda kiln or various low-fire methods including Raku and pit-fire (weather and student interest permitting). Mosaics - 20460105

Fulfill your mosaic dreams and discover new dimensions for the art form. Learn how to create and undulated substrate for your mosaic. Learn how to create a sculpture form especially for mosaic and create great pieces of art for your home and garden. All the basic and advance techniques are covered including choosing correct substrates, tile design layout, cutting, adhesion and grouting. As well as the opportunity to work in glass and other materials, at Stirling Hall you have access to a full ceramic facility so you will learn to make low relief ceramic tiles to customize your work. 25 lbs. of clay, high-fire glazes, and open studio time are included in the class fee. Figure Sculpture - 20460120

Working from a nude model, students will take a methodical and anatomical approach to sculpting a realistic figure. Students may choose a head, torso,or full figure. Focus will be given to anatomy, skeletal structure, body portions, pose gesture. Building techniques, problem solving, observational skills, internal armature, will be emphasized. Special attention will be given to traditional and nontraditional finishing techniques for sculpture. Students are encouraged to creatively finish their sculpture. This is a parent and child pottery class. Come sit side by side at the potter's wheel and both of you will learn to throw simple shapes of cups and bowls. Twigs Art Camp - 30449901

Campers will spend seven weeks improving their skills in art fields they have worked in before and discover new ones. Twigs will cover all of the traditional mediums like painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture while using the natural setting at the Grove Cultural Campus as the subject. TWIGS will take full advantage of the ceramics facility at Stirling Hall by engaging in multiple clay projects. These young artists will pickup invaluable information about art and the skills to create their own art. NOT JUST ART! TWIGS campers will take breaks from their art projects to go to the beach and take 3 field trips throughout the summer. Campers will also have their choice of performance arts to participate in all leading up to the final showcase for families to attend at the end of camp.
