Jr. High and High School Sailing - 10250122

Lake Forest Sailing has a proud tradition of being one of the best teams in the Midwest. This is your chance to be a part of it! Camp Awesome - 30240100

Camp Awesome is our program dedicated to teaching children who have high functioning special needs. Campers ages 9 to 12 will be working with U.S Sailing trained instructors who are also trained to work with special needs sailors. This one week, half day program is highly flexible and set up to meet the needs of your child.

Pram 1 Full Day - 30240101

Pram 1 is the foundation of the learn-to-sail program. Our beginner sailors will use our fleet of Vanguard Prams (the training version of the international optimist dinghy) to learn the basics (points of sail, nomenclature, departure, docking) all while gaining confidence in the boat. This class has a low instructor to student ratio to maximize the attention each sailor receives. Expect to take this course at least twice before moving on to Pram 2.

Pram 2 Full Day - 30240103

If you are looking for a program that really puts sailing at your child's fingertips, this is it! The course will build on skills learned in Pram 1. Sailors will learn more about rules of the road, intermediate boat handling, and how to go fast! The goal of this course is to make the basic skills automatic and provide the foundation to move up to learn to race if desired. Sailors should have a good handle on knots, parts of the boat, points of sail, rigging and sailing upwind before signing up for Pram 2. If you have any questions please call the sailing office.

Little Luffers is all about gaining an affinity and confidence for being on the water. There are usually two sailors in each pram, giving them a chance to meet new friends and share the fun! Sailors in this program focus on how much fun sailing can be and develop a good base for Pram 1.

420 1 Full Day - 30240110

Sailors will learn the basics of sailing (points of sail, nomenclature, departure/docking) all while gaining confidence in the boat. This course is perfect for those sailors who want to experience the thrill of sailing in a welcoming environment. We will be using our fleet of 420’s, a double handed boat that is designed for people over 5’4” and 125lbs. If your child is under these measures, and under 15, they should be sailing in the Pram/Optimist class. The 420 is used by High Schools and Colleges around the country for both recreational sailing and racing. Sailors should plan on taking this course at least twice before advancing to the 420 Learn to Race program.

Lake Forest Sailing's Optimist Race Team is known for hard work and great success. Joining the race team is a commitment of time and effort. Parent involvement is a must as the team travels frequently to regattas around the Midwest. The focus of the race team is all aspects of small boat racing and training for top-level regional, national, and international events. On-shore components of boat maintenance, rules, tactics, and fitness will be a large part of the race team this summer.
